In this week\u2019s newsletter, we\u2019re talking about reinvigorating stale products as something that\u2019s a good idea to do. But if your product happens to be an app in Apple\u2019s App Store \u2013 it\u2019s something you have<\/em> to do.<\/p>\n

Back in April, Apple started removing apps from its App Store altogether if they hadn\u2019t been updated in quite some time.<\/a> The news upset many app developers, including indie developers who had fully functional games and apps that were removed. Those apps simply hadn\u2019t been updated in over a year, which caused them to get flagged by Apple\u2019s App Improvement system \u2013 whether the apps were still functional or not.<\/p>\n

It does raise a big question, though\u2026<\/p>\n

What makes<\/em> an app stale? And when should you do something about it?<\/p>\n

In the specific case with Apple\u2019s App Store, Apple decided to define that by the last time the app was updated. Even if your product isn\u2019t on the App Store, though, your customers are likely noticing if your product hasn\u2019t been updated in quite some time. While they don\u2019t have the power to pull your product down altogether, they may have the power to simply move on from your product.<\/p>\n

The question of when to do something about it is a tricky one. I\u2019d argue that you should always<\/em> be working towards ensuring your product isn\u2019t stale. Your product is never \u201cdone\u201d \u2013 it only evolves.<\/p>\n

But one thing is for sure \u2013 you don\u2019t want to wait until it\u2019s too late. Otherwise, you may find yourself scrambling like many app developers in the past<\/a> who saw their entire products evaporate right before their eyes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
